Story
The Modern Warfare 4 campaign begins with a full-scale invasion of South Korea by North Korea. The story is told across 16 missions and moves through the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai, according to the official Call of Duty blog.
One of the protagonists is Private Park Hyun Jun, a young South Korean recruit. Everything is new to him: it is his first time on the front line, alongside his squad, trying to defend his own country as the invasion advances. The Korean part of the campaign shows the conflict through the eyes of an ordinary soldier, far from the special forces units, with trench fighting and the struggle to retake occupied areas.
The other side of the story belongs to Captain John Price, a familiar face for series fans. This time he serves no one: the blog describes him as a former operator turned outlaw who acts on his own, determined to find whoever is behind the invasion, the one "pulling the strings". That hunt takes the campaign beyond Asia, with chases in Paris, missions in New York and SAS night raids in Mumbai. The campaign trailer shown at Tokyo Game Show also mentions unlikely alliances along the way.
For newcomers, the official post "The Story So Far" recaps what came before in the trilogy that started in 2019: the invasion of Urzikstan, the forming of Task Force 141 and Price's confrontation with General Shepherd, which leaves its mark on the character. You do not need to have played the earlier games, but that recap helps explain why Price starts Modern Warfare 4 outside the system.
The campaign opened before launch: on October 16, 2026, players who pre-ordered the digital version (Standard Digital or Vault) could play the missions a week early. DMZ opened on October 20 and the full game arrived on October 23. Completing missions grants rewards for the rest of the game, such as operators and profile items. The official post's reward showcase lists the operators Park, Cho, Dallas, Luca, Ohi, Kal, Dunn and West; it shows the names but does not explain each one's role in the story, so this summary does not explain them either.
This summary was written by our team in our own words and avoids scene details and the ending. The game is rated Mature 17+ by the ESRB; if you are under 18, talk to your parents or guardians before playing.
