Modern Warfare 4 arrived on October 23, 2026 with a long list of multiplayer maps and modes. Two days earlier, the official Call of Duty blog published a post just about them, and that is the source the SequeLariCOD team used for this guide, written in our own words. The goal is simple: help new players understand where each map takes place, what each type of match is for and which modes are new. We follow the site's usual rule: if the official post does not say it, neither do we. That is why you will not find made-up map sizes, match lengths or route tips the source does not give.
The 6v6 launch maps
The heart of multiplayer is the set of maps for two teams of six. The post lists twelve at launch. Lithium sits in rural Mexico, at the foot of a mountain range, around a lithium refinery turned combat zone. Lotus is a fishing village in South Korea, with a market, a hostel, a boathouse, gardens and residential blocks. Mumbai is a packed residential district around a Victorian-style market, cut by a rail line. Munition is a North Korean command base with a depot, monitoring rooms, a skybridge between buildings, a crane, a water tower and hangars.
Nautical takes place on a South Korean ferry at dawn, leaving a conflict zone. Reactor U92 is a reactor complex in South Korea in meltdown, with a large curved command room and a containment pool in the middle. Rooftops moves the match to the snowy roofs of a New York hotel, with a greenhouse, air-conditioning platforms, a boiler room and skylights. Sentry is a Russian military base in a whiteout, with a garage, a generator room, a substation and a command center. Silkworm is a South Korean shopping district full of alleys, with a convenience store, a gaming den and a subway entrance in the middle. Transit 213 is an overgrown parking lot in western India, full of colorful parked buses, with a repair shop, a small gas station and tall buildings around it.
Cachette is on the outskirts of a rail terminal in France, where an abandoned wine warehouse and a mechanic's garage became a hidden armory. Coal is also on the list, but in the official post it shows the same text as Cachette, so we prefer not to describe Coal until the source gives it its own description. On top of the twelve, the post announced Shipment for October 27: the classic small map at a Russian harbor, between the water and concrete buildings, with its usual layout and the game's new look.
Ground War: 32v32 in Hajin
Ground War is the match type with much bigger teams, 32 players each, and vehicles. The three launch maps are in Hajin, the same region that became Warzone's new map. Imjin Farmland shows the rural side, with open fields, rivers, farms, a large mill, roads and rail lines, good for players who like long sightlines and driving. Wolves Stadium is the urban side, around a stadium, with multi-story buildings, transit lines, tunnels and rooftops. Forest sits between the two: a wooded hillside with streets, dirt trails and train tracks to the south, plus a guard tower, a gas station and barracks.
Small maps for Gunfight and the Kill Block
Gunfight is the duo mode, where two players face two others in short rounds. Launch brought four maps of its own. Cafe is a Paris courtyard with a theater, a magazine kiosk and a central fountain, with a statue that gives a view from above and little cover along the edges. Library is a library with bookshelves and a central walkway reached by stairs. NYC is downtown New York on a winter night, with a large stage in the middle surrounded by stands and stalls. Smuggler is a rail yard with parked cars, ladders up to the roofs and warehouses on both sides.
The Kill Block is different from all of them: it is a training facility that changes shape between rounds. According to the post, there are more than 500 possible combinations, and some sections recall maps from earlier Modern Warfare games, such as Crash, Highrise and Shoot House. It is used in 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight.
The new modes: Inflation, Hijack, Collateral and Combat Outpost
The post mentions more than a dozen modes at launch, in standard, alternate and Hardcore versions. Hardcore shows less information on screen, turns on friendly fire and gives you less health with no automatic recovery. Four modes are new. In Inflation, each elimination gives in-game cash to your team, but carrying a lot makes you a target: past a threshold, your position is shown to everyone, and whoever goes down loses part of what they carried. The final minutes bring an overtime with bigger multipliers, and the team with the most cash wins.
Hijack is a fight over an object, the Data Spike, which can be carried, thrown and passed to a teammate until it reaches the other team's comm station. Once planted, it scores points over time, with a bonus if the upload finishes. Collateral is a round-based mode with no respawns: everyone starts with a pistol and a little cash, earns more between rounds and buys equipment, weapons, armor and even a team UAV in a buy phase. One team attacks and the other defends two bomb sites, and anyone who goes down loses their gear but keeps their cash. Combat Outpost is Ground War's take on Domination: capturing outposts gives points and new spawn spots, and reinforcing them unlocks team rewards, like a local UAV and vehicles delivered to the base.
The classic modes that came back
Anyone who has played Call of Duty will recognize the rest of the list. Frontline always spawns everyone at their team's base, and eliminations outside it are worth more. Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed and Free-For-All are back, each with the score and time limits listed in the post. Search and Destroy still has two bomb sites and no respawns. Gunfight swaps everyone's loadout every two rounds. Gun Game, a party mode, moves players through a sequence of weapons until they finish the list. To practice movement there is also Proving Grounds, a course with tutorials and timed challenges where the goal is an S rating in all of them.
The party modes before Season 1
Before Season 1, the post promised two party modes around Halloween. Possession is new: whoever eliminates an opponent takes control of them, moving to their spot and keeping their loadout. Infected is an old favorite: one player starts infected and every survivor they catch switches to their side. According to the official Season 1 post, these modes arrived on October 29 and 30.
What the post does not say
The post does not talk about ranked play or which modes go into each menu playlist. It also gives no size or average match length for any map. When the official source publishes that information, this article will be updated. Every map mentioned here has its own page on SequeLariCOD, with its match type and source, and the links are right below. Reminder: SequeLariCOD is an unofficial fan site; Call of Duty and Modern Warfare belong to Activision.
