On May 28, 2026, the official Call of Duty blog published "Announcing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4", signed by Call of Duty Staff. It was the first official text to bring together everything the game promised: the release date, the platforms, the three big modes, the changes to gunplay and progression and what would change in Warzone. This article, written by the SequeLariCOD team in our own words, explains what was announced that day and links each promise to the pages of the site where it can now be checked, since the game is out. The link to the full post is at the end, under sources.

Date and platforms

The announcement set the launch for October 23, 2026, a date that held. The game was built for the current generation: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The post made it clear there would be no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. Anyone on those older consoles would need new hardware to play Modern Warfare 4.

The studio list also stood out. Infinity Ward leads development, Beenox handles the PC version and Digital Legends builds the native Switch 2 version. The post also credits Treyarch, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, High Moon Studios, Demonware, Activision Shanghai and Activision's central design, technology and QA teams.

The campaign: Korea, Price and a rookie

The story starts with North Korea invading the Korean Peninsula. The post presents two points of view. On one side is Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing real combat for the first time with his squad. On the other is Captain Price, now outside the law and chasing a weapon that could shift the global balance of power. Beyond Korea, the announcement mentions missions in New York, Paris and Mumbai, mixing front-line combat with stealth missions. Both characters are also multiplayer Operators with their own pages here, and our campaign article covers how the story turned out in the released game.

Multiplayer: Ballistic Authority and Kill Block

The biggest multiplayer promise was a weapon system called Ballistic Authority. According to the post, it removes bloom, the random spread of shots while firing, and rebuilds recoil and convergence so each shot goes where the player expects. The same package mentions visual tweaks to make enemies easier to spot. Movement also gained more options to climb, hang, jump and mantle over obstacles, which our movement and gunplay article covers in detail.

The announcement promised 12 core maps at launch and one map unlike the others: Kill Block, a training facility called Westbridge Training Facility whose layout changes every round. The post mentions more than 500 configurations and matches in both 3v3 Gunfight and 10v10. Gunfight and Big War are among the modes named.

Create-a-Class, Gunny and Apex Attachments

Create-a-Class was redesigned. In Gunsmith, attributes are shared by weapon class, so what applies to one weapon type applies to the others of the same type. For those who do not want to build everything themselves, the announcement introduced Gunny, an assistant that suggests builds. Another new feature was Apex Attachments, a special attachment unlocked by fully leveling a weapon. Here on the site, every MW4 weapon with an Apex Attachment shows its name in the guide tab, always with the official source.

Two ways to Prestige

The post also revealed that Prestige would have two paths. In Classic Prestige, players reset everything in exchange for faster XP. In Regular Prestige, they go back to level 1 but keep what they had unlocked in Create-a-Class. Each player chooses, and our progression and Prestige article explains how the system works at launch.

DMZ is back

The DMZ extraction mode returned as one of the game's three pillars, alongside campaign and multiplayer. In the announcement, the player acts as an off-the-books asset behind enemy lines and has to decide which objectives to complete and when to get out. The first longer look at the mode was set for June 7. The post does not mention Zombies. Our two DMZ guides, on the Forward Operating Base and on the Hajin map, show how the mode arrived in the game.

PC: technology and settings

For PC, the announcement listed DLSS 4.5, expanded ray tracing, upscaling and frame generation options and settings aimed at competitive play, with Beenox working alongside Infinity Ward. The site's requirements article gathers what later posts said about the hardware needed.

What changed in Warzone

The announcement also covered Warzone. Starting with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, Warzone uses MW4's seasonal content and progression. For players on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, it was a farewell: the post said new downloads on those consoles would end on June 4, the in-game store would be removed on June 25 and Warzone would no longer be playable on them from Season 1. Our Warzone Season 1 guide shows what took its place, with Hajin and Zodiac.

Pre-orders and what came next

Pre-orders opened the same day, with the Vault Edition and a Loyalty Discount mentioned in the post, and the details went into a separate text that our editions article explains. The announcement already promised an Open Beta before launch, a multiplayer video series called From the Ward and Switch 2 pre-orders in the summer. Looking back from November 2026, almost everything announced in May made it into the game, and each part has its own page here on SequeLariCOD, with the official source next to it.

The post's footer shows the ESRB rating, Mature 17+, meaning content for ages 17 and up in the United States. Our Play it safe page explains where the family controls are.
