About the family
SNK's Neo Geo AES arrived in 1990 as the home version of the Neo Geo MVS arcade board: its large cartridges were identical to the arcade ones, so the games were the same as in the machines. According to the Home Computer Museum, the console cost 649 dollars and each cartridge around 200. In 2026, SNK and Plaion announced the Neo Geo AES+, a modern version that plays the original cartridges, set to launch on November 12, 2026. On the handheld side, the black-and-white Neo Geo Pocket came out in 1998 and stayed in Japan, and the Neo Geo Pocket Color followed in 1999, according to Nintendojo and Time Extension.
