About the family

The 3DO did not belong to a single company: The 3DO Company, founded in 1991 by Electronic Arts co-founder Trip Hawkins, designed the hardware and licensed its manufacture. The first model, by Panasonic, launched in the United States on October 4, 1993, at 699.99 dollars; Guinness World Records lists it as the most expensive console ever, adjusted for inflation. Goldstar (now LG) and Sanyo versions followed in 1994, and the price dropped to 399 dollars by February 1994. In September 1996, The 3DO Company stopped developing and licensing hardware.
